Marilyn Manson - The Devil Made Me Do It: Analysis

Marilyn Manson - The Devil Made Me Do It: Analysis

 The de vil made me do it is a crime/ investigation documentry about 3 young girls who stabbed a Nun in Italy. Because of the crimes saanic ature, and the fact the girls were hardcore Manson fans, the goth icon himself was partly held responsible because of his power to influence people.

The documentary opens loudly with clips from a Marilyn Manson concert and his fan going hysterical. This is very atention grabbing and was likley placed at the beginning of the programme for this reason. After about 30 secconds the title screen appears and narration begins.

Camera::

Most of the footage played is B roll, so there isn't many advanced camera techniques used.

Sound::

There is ambient music with alot of narration to explain whats happening in the b roll footage.

Editing:

The editing is mostly quick cuts butween news clips.

The Meth Epidemic: Analysis

The Meth Epidemic: Analysis

This documentary focuses on the issue of meth prouction and use in America but particularly on a town called Oregon and how its has been 'Destroyed by meth use' over the years. The veiwer is also educated about the drug itself and how it affects users and thier families.

Camera

- Close upa of parephinalia, addicts and money
- There are many different shots within the first 5 minutes because of the introductory montage with narration that is featured.

Sound

- A narrator talks over the visual montage and the images reflect the subject matter. There is then some A roll footage played of a police 'meth raid'. There is some atmospheric tension music played at one point but nothing more abstract than that. The documentary is broken up by a narrator with a godly voice.

Editing
- There's a lot of editing used in the opening of the documentary which makes it more engaging. It features not only cuts between A and B roll footage, but camera effects which keeps variety

Bungie Documentary - Analysis

Bungie Documentary - Analysis

This documentary is about the game developer, Bungie, and how they have evolved over the years and came to be the multimillion pound company they are today. It features many interveiws with the team members and video clips of them at work. Interestingly, the documentary dosen't have a narrator and instead is narrated by the team members talking to the camera and over the video clips.

*Camera

The camera work varies alot because there is amature footage taken with cheap video cameras mixed in with the A roll footage. There arn't many purposeful camera techniques used because the A roll clips just follow people around, and the B roll is footage from video games or amature video capturing.

*Sound

The sound is a major part of the documentary because the storyof Bungie is told by the people involved with it, and without their input the programme wouldn't be very informative. The documentary opens with the theme music of Halo: Combat Evolved playing in the background, a tune that all Bungie fans will instantly recognise. As with many documentaries, the first few minutes are a montage which give some interesting details about the subject matter and draw the audience in. Background music plays almost constantly through the programme E.G. when the team are talking about the Halo games, music that was composed for those games plays in the background, which keeps it relevant.

*Editing

There isn't heavy editing in this documntary because of the abundence of A roll footage, but there's plenty of cutaways because the programme jumps between difeerent video clips regularly
